WHAT SHOULD [i] DO?
Q: You were having a conversation with your co-worker Blanche about files, business records, the piles of paper on her desk, shelves, and in her file cabinets. Blanche mentioned she will never get rid of the piles that there could be useful information and that she has more than ten years of paper stacks. What should you do?
Reach out to the RIM Department for guidance and assistance. The first aspect of the Records lifecycle is Active File Maintenance. Active files are records received/created and in use within one year, anything after is considered inactive. Before anything can be destroyed, records must be transferred to RIM for classification and storage. Once records are deemed eligible for destruction according to the RRS, the Records & Information Manager will work with the Department Head/Data Owner to authorize and conduct the destruction.

Consider the scenario, if you have a thousand boxes of records that need to be inventoried for your department, what thought does that lead you to? Perhaps a thought that your Records Department is efficient, organized, and has a great leader and hard working team members. With a good leader, people are motivated to grow and will perform their best to reach the goal. Read more below on how to be the source of inspiration and motivation for the team.
